VETASSESS Skills Assessment – General Professional Occupations

Your Pathway to Skilled Migration for Over 200 Non-Trade Occupations

VETASSESS is Australia’s largest assessing authority for general professional occupations, covering more than 200 roles across management, business, arts, science, social services, hospitality, and technical fields.

If your occupation does not fall under engineering, IT, nursing, accounting, or trades, it is highly likely assessed by VETASSESS.

At ABEE’S Consultancy (MARN: 2217775), we assist clients in understanding their eligibility, preparing compliant evidence, and lodging VETASSESS applications correctly.

What Is VETASSESS?

What VETASSESS evaluates

VETASSESS (Vocational Education and Training Assessment Services) is authorised by the Australian Government to evaluate:

  • The level of your qualification
  • The relevance of your qualification
  • The skill level of your work experience
  • The relevancy of your employment duties to your ANZSCO occupation

Why a positive outcome matters

A positive VETASSESS outcome confirms that your skills meet Australian standards—an essential requirement for skilled visas such as 189, 190, 491, 485 (Graduate Work), and employer-sponsored pathways in some cases.

Eligibility Requirements

1. Qualification Requirements

Your qualification must be comparable to the required AQF level for your occupation group. If your degree is not closely related to your nominated occupation, additional work experience may be needed to compensate.

2. Skilled Employment Requirements

VETASSESS usually requires 1–3 years of post-qualification experience, depending on your occupation group.

Your professional experience must be:

  • Paid
  • Relevant
  • Performed at the skill level of the occupation
  • Within the past 5–10 years (depending on the occupation)

3. Relevance of Duties

Your job responsibilities must align with the ANZSCO tasks for your nominated occupation. Duties that do not match ANZSCO will not be counted as skilled experience.

VETASSESS Process – Step-by-Step

Select the Right ANZSCO Occupation

Choosing the correct occupation is critical. The wrong occupation can result in:

  • Immediate rejection
  • Delays
  • Inability to receive visa invitations

Understand Your Occupation Group (A–F)

Each group has different minimum qualification level, experience requirements and relevance rules. We help you understand your group and what evidence is required.

Gather Documentation

This includes qualification documents, employment reference letters, payslips, bank statements, tax evidence, employment contracts and position descriptions. We guide you on correct formatting, content, and evidence requirements.

Prepare Reference Letters

Employment reference letters must be:

  • On company letterhead
  • Signed by authorised management
  • Detailed with exact duties
  • Matching ANZSCO tasks
  • Including work hours, salary, and employment dates

Submit the VETASSESS Application

Once your documents are ready, we assist you with creating your VETASSESS account, uploading documents correctly, completing forms accurately and lodging the application.

Wait for Outcome or RFI

If VETASSESS requires more evidence, they issue an RFI (Request for Further Information). We assist you in understanding the RFI, preparing extra documents and ensuring compliance with the request.

Receive Your Outcome

A positive assessment will confirm qualification equivalency, skill level, skilled employment years recognised and suitability for migration. This can then be used for visa applications.

Processing Time & Fees

Processing Times

Standard processing: ~10–12 weeks

Priority processing: 5–10 business days (extra fee)

Fees

Fees depend on assessment type (skill-only, skill + points test, 485 assessment).

Common Mistakes Applicants Make

Frequent pitfalls

  • Selecting the wrong ANZSCO code
  • Providing generic duty descriptions
  • Not submitting strong salary evidence
  • Relying only on reference letters (insufficient)
  • Qualifications not related to occupation
  • Overstating responsibilities
  • Missing documents or poor formatting

These issues frequently lead to negative outcomes or delays.
